Highlights of the Tour
Itinerary
Old Town:Â
Our tour begins at 8:30 a.m. We go to Ohrid and begin our tour in the Old Town, a beautiful and ancient area of the city in North Macedonia that is well-known for its cobblestone streets, restored architecture, and historical sites. On the shores of Lake Ohrid, the old town grew between the seventh and the nineteenth centuries. It grew out of archeological remnants from the Middle Ages to the Bronze Age. Wander around the Old Town's winding, narrow lanes made of cobblestones. A blend of Ottoman, medieval, and traditional Macedonian architectural styles can be seen in the building.
Robev Family Residence:Â
One of Ohrid, North Macedonia's most well-known and historic structures is the Robev House. Todor Petkov constructed it in its current form during 1863 and 1864. The National Museum and the Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments own the house, which is now a protected cultural monument. Historical monuments from Ohrid, which feature priceless items like the "Milokas" (located on the Via Egnatia road), are placed on the ground level of the residence. The second floor of the house is used as an exhibition area for works by well-known Ohrid and county artists as well as items crafted by the Ohrid Carving School. A few Robevi family relics are on display in the house's eastern section.
Saint Sofia ChurchÂ
The UNESCO World Heritage site in Ohrid is home to the Church of Saint Sophia. Its origins can be traced back to the 11th century. It is considered as one of the most significant medieval monuments in the city and was built under Tsar Samuil's authority as the First Bulgarian Empire. The church's architecture combines traditional Macedonian and Byzantine elements. It is decorated with frescoes, some of which are well-preserved, and has a basilica layout.
Ohrid Theatre:Â
Discover  the historic Ohrid theater, which can hold up to 4,000 people. It is occasionally used for cultural events and is believed to have originated in Roman times. The nation's only Hellenistic-style theater was constructed in 200 BC. The two hills that encircle the open Ohrid theater provide ideal shelter from winds that may otherwise compromise the acoustics of plays.
Samuel's  Fortress:Â
The fortress, which was built in the fourth century, provides insight into the rich history of Ohrid. Standing tall over Ohrid, it has a strange past that dates back to the ancient Macedonian kingdom and extends to its role as the capital of Tsar Samuel's ancient empire, which was founded in Macedonia. The castle saw use during the Roman and Byzantine eras, and it underwent significant reconstruction and enlargement during Samuel's rule. Today, the Fortress's 18 towers and 4 gates remain intact, serving as both a major tourist destination and Ohrid's protecting emblem.
Saint Jovan Kaneo:Â
Located over a cliff above Kaneo Beach with a breathtaking view of Lake Ohrid is the Macedonian Orthodox church known as Saint John at Kaneo. From there, we will enjoy stunning views of the old town and Ohrid Lake. This magnificent 13th-century church honors John of Patmos, the author of Revelation who is sometimes confused with John the Apostle. Although the church's exact construction date is unknown, records describing its grounds indicate that it was constructed before to 1447.
Ohrid Lake:Â
Due to its scenic beauty, historical landmarks, and recreational options, Lake Ohrid is a well-liked vacation spot. The lake, which is located in both the eastern and southwest regions of Albania and North Macedonia, is said to have been created by tectonic and geological processes. makes up one of the biggest and deepest lakes on the Balkan Peninsula, with an area of over 358 square kilometers (138 square miles).
